There is beauty sewn into each patch of my newest memory quilt. This beauty comes from a woman’s life. Some called her mother, another wife, others shouted out for their grandmother, or sister. Each will look at the patches of the memory quilt and remember this special woman in a yellow jacket trimmed with butterflies, those comfortable black polka-a-dot pants, the green silky blouse or white printed slacks. “Her heart overflowed with love for all her family.” Now she will always be remembered, as each family member cuddles in this keepsake quilt and keeps her close in years to come with remembrances of those days when we…
When a fellow teacher e-mailed and told me about her mother’s passing, she asked me to design a quilt made from her mother’s clothes. I was honored. Mothers give us so much in life. I am still blessed to have mine with me and to care for her on a daily basis. My Mother taught me to sew as a child, my Grandmother to quilt. To be able to share my talents as a quilter with others is SEW special.
Here are a few words about the person who memory we honor:
“A perfect role model for patience, love, understanding, compassion.
The ideal for motherhood, femininity, beauty, grace, poise and dignity.
Carved in special places in her huge heart was the love of family but keeping together all the heartstrings in the center was her forever love, Dad.”
