You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them. ~Desmond Tutu
How true these words and how wonderful. I watched my husband and his 9 siblings laugh, smile, and enjoy being together as a family this weekend. They range in age from 47 to 65 and haven’t been together as a family unit in three years.
A close-knit family growing up in a small PA town, they spent the better part of the weekend swapping stories and funny memories from their childhood. They joked about how today, even though they were staying at one sister’s house for the weekend, they didn’t have to share one bathroom, as they did in the house where they grew up. Late-night talking over pictures from their childhood brought back many good memories of their times together with their parents, as well as each other.
They praised their parents for a remarkable job that they did raising a large family even though money was tight. It is true today, as it was then, they are lucky to have each other.
